The Cannery

 The Cannery at Dunalley

We felt like a weekend drive followed by a seafood lunch and we had heard very good things about The Cannery at Dunalley(not to be confused with The Cannery at Cygnet which is also amazing and worth a drive!).   So we booked, asking for a wheelchair accessible table and set off on a pretty sunny, wintery day.

On arrival the friendly staff showed us to a table on the lower level quite close to the window.  There is a raised second level which is only accessible by stairs which looked like it had lovely views.  We were happy with our spot and there was a blazing woodheater going which kept the whole area toasty!

The menu was impressive and we sipped a refreshing glass of Tassie wine while we made our choices.  We could happily have ordered many items which featured Tasmanian seafood.  There were two impressive sounding platters - one which featured battered/crumbed options and another which featured many of the grilled entrees.  We decided on the latter option as we thought it sounded amazing.

When the meal arrived we were very impressed with the presentation - everything was laid out beautifully on a gorgeous - and huge - timber platter.  We thought we would not get through it all but we were hungry and the food was absolutely delicious.  Everything was fresh and the accompanying sauces were tangy and zesty.
Here are some photos of our yummy lunch:
The seafood chowder was creamy and brimming with tasty seafood.

The platter included a variety of fresh and cooked oysters - John was disappointed as he hoped to get all my oysters but I enjoyed the cooked ones so he only got my fresh ones!

An attempt to get all of the platter into one photo!

We managed to polish off almost all of it.  We didn't have a hope of fitting in dessert even though John was eyeing off the waffles.  Next time!!  We loved the ambience and the menu at The Cannery and will definitely return.  The service was very friendly and helpful.  They were busy so I recommend booking.
