Curringa Farm

 Peaceful Farm Stay near Hamilton

Looking for a weekend away which was not too far from Hobart, we decided to head to Curringa Farm based on the recommendation of a friend.  We wanted somewhere peaceful and this definitely fit the bill.

The accommodation is on a 750 acre working farm.  We were not quite sure what to expect but the website promised luxury so we were keen to give it a go. The fact that the farm is on the edge of Lake Meadowbank was a drawcard. Our stay was in the middle of winter so we expected it to be cold - and it was!!  The nights were freezing but we were blessed with sunny blue skies during the day (once the fog lifted).  We were then treated to rolling green pastures with cute sheep and a dazzling view of the dam when we walked down the hill.

We arrived on Friday evening and drove three kilometres from reception to get to the cabins - they are dotted across the property, very well spaced to give privacy.  Our studio, Blue Wren, was a wheelchair accessible one with a purpose built bathroom.  It had a wheel-in shower but also a lovely, deep bath(yay!!).  The cabins are heated by heat pump which was very thoughtfully on when we arrived.

John could drive right up to the door and it was easy to unload the bags into the cabin space. The studio is one large room with a kitchen/lounge area and the bathroom is a separate space.  Our studio had another cabin very close which they recommend for family groups or friends travelling together.  Another studio has a spa but we were not sure about the accessibility of that one when we booked.  It looked good for couples wanting a romantic getaway!  Our cabin had everything you need for a cosy weekend.  We had ordered the dinner pack and breakfast provisions which was plenty for our two night stay.  The dinner pack included three courses including a delicious home-cooked dessert of apple crumble - one of John's favourites.  We cooked the meat and vegetables on the barbecue on the small deck area and then ate at the dining table inside as it was far too chilly to eat outside, even though the millions of stars were putting on a brilliant show!

We did some lovely walks around the property with John making use of his freewheel.

It is possible to do tours of the property with the owners to find out more about the running of the farm.  We saw quite a few of the residents:

There are many things to do on the property - farm tour, kayaking on the lake, choosing from a range of walks around the property, visit nearby Lawrenny Distillery for a gin tasting(which we did) or head to Mt Field National Park.  Or just relax in your studio...

Tim and Jane, your hosts, are clearly very proud of what they do and want you to enjoy your stay.  They were very quick to respond to questions via email and were keen to make our holiday enjoyable.  We had a lovely time!  Next time we would love to add a farm tour - they didn't run on our weekend as you need at least four people to make it viable.

We came away feeling very refreshed after our peaceful weekend.
