Experiences We Love

Ghost Rock Winery

 Fabulous Winery Visit!

On the weekend we headed up to Devonport so that John could compete in the State Brass Band Championships.  On the way up we were looking for a nice spot for lunch and to break up the trip a little.  We settled on Ghost Rock Vineyard in Port Sorell as we had never visited before. We booked a wine tasting as well as a table for lunch.  When we arrived we did the tasting at the table rather than in the cellar area as it was easier for wheelchair access. We were definitely glad we booked as they were very busy. They gave us a lovely table right in the window.  The weather was quite changeable with rain showers at times and bright sunshine at others.  With the sun out, it gave us an insight into how lovely it would be to sit outside during summer.

The wine tasting was guided by one of the staff.  We could choose 3 tastings for $5 or 5 tastings for $10.  Any purchases meant the tasting was complimentary.  We opted for 10 wines to taste between the two of us.  There was a pretty extensive and impressive list of wines to try.  We were interested in the sparklings, the Supernatural range and the pinot noirs.
The tasting came with a book which described the wines and had space to record notes.  We found this useful for helping us decide which wines we would later purchase(a hard decision as they were all so good!).  John was especially good at taking notes :-)

Once we completed our tasting, we ordered our food and a glass to have with lunch - the Supernatural pet nat for me(yum!!) and the Catherine sparkling cuvee for John(also yum!!).  The pet nat is such a great food wine!

The food menu had lots of delicious local options.  The restaurant pride themselves on using fresh locally sourced ingredients and show the food miles for these items on their menu.  They had some great specials too.  We opted to share the following:
Swordfish with scallops - so tender and tasty!  All cooked to perfection.

Chargrilled calamari with a romescue sauce which was tangy and delicious.

Roasted cauliflower as a side.

We did not share desserts!  John opted for one of the specials - dropped ferrero rocher cone- which was a tasty as it looks.  I had the citrus creme brulee which was tangy and light and the perfect end to our wonderful meal.  It came with delicious pistachio crescent cookies which were amazing.

Wheelchair access was easy.  The dining room is spacious and the friendly and helpful staff made the tasting and lunch bookings seamless and very enjoyable.  Service was attentive and efficient.  There is a wheelchair access toilet in both the available restrooms, even though this isn't labelled on the door.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Ghost Rock and will definitely return - a long summery lunch beckons...
