The Beach House

Fabulous Food - Any Time of the Day!

We have followed Ruben and Erin around to a number of venues now and their food, service and the atmosphere they create is always spot on!  They have always been movers and shakers in the world of innovative and impressive food culture in Hobart.  We were very excited to learn that they were moving to set up shop at The Beach House in Blackmans Bay, making them our local.  Our first sojourn was for breakfast after a lovely walk along the esplanade.  The menu is seriously impressive and I had a very hard time making a decision!  I would have been happy with any of the temptations on offer with some really great and innovative combinations of flavours. I finally opted for the breakfast muffin with slow cooked pulled pork, apple slaw and hollandaise sauce and was extremely happy with my choice.  The pulled pork was tasty and delicious and blended perfectly with the zingy hollandaise. The slaw was tangy and fresh which cut through the richness of the dish.  It was super yum!!

John was feeling hungry and chose the big breakfast and it was certainly big! His decision was swayed by the sausages as well as the haloumi.  It was all very well cooked and he left feeling very full! We were both impressed with the quality of the coffee and the refreshing Tasmanian Juice Press juices.

The food was impressive (and we can't wait to return to try more items from the breakfast menu) but the service and setting are also what makes The Beach House special.  We received a very warm welcome and were seated in the outdoor area to make the most of the gorgeous day.  The glass screen provides shelter from the sea breeze but does not hamper the stunning vista of blue sky, ocean and sand.  It is a great spot for people-watching! Indoors there is seating on two levels - the lower level for most meals and the upper level for afternoon tapas and functions. Wheelchair accessibility is provided to all spaces except for the top level.

The stunning view!!

We had such a lovely time that we decided to return for lunch the following weekend with family.  We were able to book at short notice for a table of five and were offered a choice of either inside or outside.  As it was quite breezy, we chose to stay indoors.  Again it was hard to decide as each meal sounded delicious and there were quite a range of options.  Due to the warmer weather, I opted for a salad and selected the belly and mango.  This was a dazzling assortment of pulled pork belly, fresh coriander and mint, mango, cashews and bean shoots.  It was drizzled with a strawberry and chilli dressing and was light, refreshing and very tasty.  It looked beautiful too!

John chose the seafood chowder, a favourite, and he was impressed with the creamy soup which was crammed with fresh seafood including scallops, fish and mussels.  I was offered a taste and it was very flavourful.

Another of our party chose the linguini which came with an impressive five types of seafood.  It was in a creamy garlic sauce and liberally sprinkled with chilli.  This was also a hit!

Again, the service was polite, friendly and attentive, even though they were busy.  We had a four year old with us and they quickly provided drawing materials and offered for his meal to be served first.  It was all seamless.  Coffee was once again good and we sadly could not manage dessert - that will have to wait for our next visit.  We can't wait to return to try the dinner menu, be treated to royal service and enjoy that magnificent view in the summer months.
