Flotsam

 Quaint, Cute and Peaceful

Check out the serenity!!

Flotsam was a lovely little gem! Celebrating the anniversary of when we met, we decided to visit Van Bone for lunch.  We recruited James and Ava as designated drivers and were all set for a lovely afternoon of food and wine. One thing led to another and we decided a sneaky night away would be in order after our long lunch.  Cue the Google search to find somewhere close to the restaurant and we came across Flotsam in Dunalley.  It fit the bill perfectly as it has two cabins, separate but very close to each other.  It is right across the road from Bangor vineyard.  It is not set up for wheelchair access but we asked a few questions via email and decided it was manageable for just one night. Any longer would have been a problem as the shower was not accessible.

We arrived at about 4pm after our gorgeous Van Bone experience and were met with a lovely, welcome note from our host.  The check in is all done with email instructions and codes to access the keys.  It was very easy. The cabins were beautifully appointed and done in a sea shack kind of theme.  We loved it - lots of cute bric-a-brac and shades of blue in the furnishings.

The cabins are right near the beach but also very close to the road.  During the afternoon we could hear the traffic but overnight it was very peaceful as there was very little traffic at all.  There is a gravel pathway to the cabins which was a bit challenging for the wheelchair but with our assistance it was manageable. It is also walking distance to Bangor - very convenient if you planned a lunch there!
This was our cabin- "Afloat".  James and Ava stayed in "Adrift".

Both cabins - close together yet with your own space.  Both have the same layout inside.

We loved the driftwood wardrobe!

Cute accessories gave a cosy feel!

The couch was very comfortable and the little coffee table was great for a cheese platter and a game of cards.  We had a very enjoyable evening here in front of the cosy woodheater.  The woodheater was very effective.  We ran it for a short time due to an afternoon thunderstorm and it remained warm enough for the whole night.

The bathroom was cute, clean and reasonably spacious.  The glass panel was not quite wide enough for John to fit into the shower.

The most elaborate toilet roll art we have ever seen!!

There were lots of cute nook and secret hideaway spots on the grounds surrounding the cabins.  You could sit in the sun on a nice day or find a peaceful nook for reading.

We explored the beach but found that John could not get down further than the path. Ava, James and I enjoyed a bit of a walk along the beach. The scenery was very moody and pretty. The clouds were stunning.

The sunset later on was even more spectacular.

We thoroughly enjoyed our little getaway to Flotsam and would recommend it as a holiday spot.  It was not too far from Hobart and had a great sense of peace and serenity, a feeling of being a world away.  It was also convenient to some great eateries and wineries.  The check in and out was all very easily done via email - great host!
